The new American culture

One final note about the fast-food issue, from the prospective that government should not be involved in any way trying to regulate what people eat, what type of food is served in a restaurant, and how it is served as in the difference between fast or slow.

This is not a question about the difference between a burger and a filet, or even the fact that one offers a menu that consists primarily of processed foods, while the other offers dishes made primarily from fresh ingredients. It has nothing to do with the difference in cost, nor is it a question of the level of service. This subject touches the heart of a fundamental question of governance, which is how far should the government go to protect the public, and should that duty to protect be used to oppress, in the name of a “worthy” cause, movement or point-of-view.

When government becomes intrusive, freedom will always eventually win over oppression, because the taste of freedom is as addicting as Belgian chocolate, or Maine Lobster. Freedoms are lost when the government begins regulating to limit choices in lifestyle, products, commodities, activities, arts, entertainment, and even dining possibilities. To lose freedom is to have the quality of your life diminished, at the hands and whim of another.

One man’s protection is another man’s oppression. People don’t need to be told what to do, what to read, how to think, and how to live, what they need is a cultural environment that nurtures the positive aspects of their personality, and in turn drives the culture in which those personalities mix, in a positive direction. People need choice, and in a free society, it’s what creates individual accomplishment, humanitarian acts, intellectual pursuits, scientific discovery, breathtaking art, intelligence, admiration, motivation, benevolence, idealism, respect and tolerance, and all contributes to the common good.

Through freedom, once people begin to see that life is a series of individual choices for which you can blame no one but yourself, ordinary people will have evolved into a reborn American culture. An American culture which takes responsibility for their own actions, and through responsibility, no longer needs “guidance” from the government to save us from ourselves.

Vote in November, and vote often, and vote for freedom right here at home.
