The John McCain Limbo
I hadn’t planned to write about politics today, but John McCain’s statements and campaign have given me no other choice. John McCain is afraid he will lose and he has no plan for this country or platform other than the same tired Republican mantra of no new taxes and war. He knows that during the next decade, America has no choice but to make sacrifices in order to regain economic and social stability, but yet he acts as though everything is just great, and even still promises he won’t raise taxes. He’ll starve a senior citizen, but he won’t raise his rich friends’ taxes. So now he and his “team” are playing hardball and are answering the outraged response to his smear campaign against Barack Obama as just some good clean fun, just a little humor. "I don’t think our campaign is negative in the slightest. I'm, we think it’s got a lot of humor in it and we’re having fun and enjoying it. And that is what campaigns are going to be like." Just because John McCain says “And that is what campaigns are going to be like” we are supposed to just stand and agree like lemmings as he guides us through not just a dirty, but a filthy campaign, that is tainting the very honor of the office he seeks? I’ve heard others say “he’s crazy”. I’ve tried to be more objective, but now realize I was just being an enabler. John McCain is a classic megalomaniac in the same mold as George W. Bush. Two believers who believe they are above the law, in their shameless greed. John McCain has nothing to offer American voters, so all this week he and his staff have resorted to utilizing the most ridiculous metaphoric racist and hate mongering that has ever been exhibited in a Presidential campaign. It has all been done almost subliminally, spending millions of campaign contributors' dollars. But John McCain and all of his supporters are truly running a hate campaign. Sadly, John McCain’s tactic may be working, because his constituency is just as closed-minded, as he is. His tasteless and unimaginative ads are striking home for a number of Americans who view this country in the same narrow view of “us and them” “mine and yours”. People that hate stars, people that hate anyone they think of as “them”, and people that hate, in general. I don’t hate John McCain, I feel sorry for him. I feel sorry that his burning desire to become the President of the United States has caused him to lose all of his ideals and integrity. The only thing John McCain has left is his desire. It’s a pity though, because at one time, he had just as much chance as anyone else to be a true leader for this country. That’s all over now. John McCain has proven he is not Presidential. William S.
