Flip-Flop McCain strikes again!
For all his accusations and political grumbling, John McCain has once again proved that in this election he is the undisputed King of the flip-flop. For weeks he’s been attacking Barack Obama for not having been to Iraq, and not having spoken to the Generals in command on the ground there. For this reason McCain has concluded that Obama cannot formulate an intelligent position on the Iraq war. Many Presidents have had to make decisions on subjects and countries without being there at the time. McCain’s comments imply that he has never been to Iraq (he went in 2006), and has never discussed the problems in Iraq with a high-ranking military official here in the States, and that is just false. Based on Obama’s stand on the issue from the very beginning, I would say he has always had a more informed position than either John McCain or President Bush, the very men who sent our troops there on false pretense and then blamed it on shoddy intelligence. These are the same men that celebrated victory in Iraq years ago. McCain’s political ramblings are absurd, and they are a tactic that is being pulled out of the bag of desperation. Now that Obama is going again, Flip-flop McCain and his camp of right-wing truth-twisters are back on the whining wagon. First they’re complaining that the big three networks are sending their evening news anchors with Obama on the trip, and Obama is accused of using this entire trip as a political photo opportunity and as an overseas political rally, as opposed to a fact finding mission. How many times have we seen the photo op of John McCain’s last visit to Iraq where he’s in the Green Zone in a bulletproof vest surrounded by soldiers, claiming how safe it has become to walk around the streets of Iraq? That wasn’t a photo op? No that was John McCain supposedly being a military expert, guiding our troops through the perils of this righteous war that is “over”. As with every other issue or non-issue, Obama is damned if he does and damned if he doesn’t in the eyes of the double-standard Republicans. We should all realize that no matter what Barack Obama does between now and November, right-wingers will find a way to paint a negative picture. They have no other way to campaign, with very little reason to be positive about their own candidate, and if anyone has gotten a free pass from the press, it is out-of-touch, tax cheating, foul joking, flip-flopping McCain. If Obama made the same foul, sadomasochistic jokes as McCain has in his public life, the press would have destroyed the Obama campaign long before he won the primaries, with 24 hour headlines and live feeds reporting on how he is unfit to lead this country. But McCain gets away with it and is labeled “authentic” because of it, simply because he is an old-time Washington insider, elitist, sexist, former P.O.W. Despite the Right’s despicable efforts to denigrate his character, experience and vision, Barack Obama seems to be getting stronger because of it. America’s voters aren’t stupid, and they’re beginning to see through the innuendos, attacks and fear tactics of the Republican strategists. The national and state polls are proving this throughout the country as Obama maintains a national lead, as well as leading in many states, even some often counted as traditionally Republican. But November is still a long ways away, and polls can produce false numbers. One thing is certain, Barack Obama faces another four months in a campaign that promises to get dirtier every day. He must be very careful about everything he does and says, and must keep his composure regardless of what is thrown at him. So far he’s done a fairly good job of it, and to be honest, isn’t that something we look for in our President? So keep slinging it Flip-Flop McCain, because the only thing you’re accomplishing is to prove that Barack Obama can face adversity with courage and poise. Or in other words, all of your lies and smear campaigns are just making Barack Obama look more Presidential. William S. James, Lefty |
